Goodbye 2008, Hello 2009

It seems like 2008 passed by extremely fast. In a few more days, we'll say hello to 2009. Well, it's time to reminisce what we have done and achieved for this year. Also, bring to mind important events that have happened throughout the year.

An incident still fresh in mind is the passing of my grandmother in-law who has left us without any last word. She was called by the Lord on 10 March and is now resting peacefully in heaven.

In the same month (29 March), I sat on a twin otter plane for the first time. I flew to Mukah to visit my aunt as well as to bring my Grandmother home. There I had the opportunity to try out their fried soupy noodles with huge fresh prawns. Other days, I stayed at my aunt’s house and enjoyed the fresh and delicious food she had prepared.

In April 10 to 15, we (myself, husband, 2 children and parents in-law) went to Genting Highlands and KL for holidays. It was very fun and we all enjoyed ourselves very much. We all get the feel of being a child again as we need to accompany our children on all the fun rides and merry-go-round.

We drove to Sibu twice this year. The first is during the Gawai holidays (1-3 June), with my husband and children. This is our first long journey drive on our Ford Escape. It’s all about food in Sibu – the Filipino pork leg (yummy), kampua mee, char chu mee, kong pia, BBQ pork etc. In October, during the Hari Raya break, we drove again to Sibu in Toyota Ipsum. This time my parents in-law came with us. Like the previous trip, we really enjoyed ‘makan’ there.

During the Merdeka holidays, the whole family went to Permai Rainforest Resort. My children enjoyed the trip very much. We (myself, husband and children) stayed in the tree house and in-laws (parents, aunties and cousin) stayed in the cabin.

I am very privileged to be working for an organisation that appreciates staff teamwork and performance. All of us travelled to Terengganu and stayed in Tanjong Jara Resort for 2 nights. Everything is paid for and it come with delicious meals and exciting games. This year’s annual dinner and trip is labeled as the best so far.

I travelled a lot for work. Places that I went to were KL, Sibu, Miri, Bintulu, KK, Tawau, Sandakan, Labuan and Brunei. Though tiring, it was great to meet up with friendly people whom I got to know from work. In this same year, we lost about 10 team members who left the organisation for better opportunities. It’s a huge loss for the organisation.

Another milestone this year is my son’s graduation ceremony (23 October) where he played violin on stage. It was very meaningful chapter of my life. He’ll be starting Primary 1 in St Joseph’s Primary School next year.

Angel’s doctor has confirmed that her heart is now fully developed and functioning like anyone of us. This piece of news is really very wonderful for us worried parents, family members and other who care so much for her. Praise God for protecting her and for His care.

A very significant chapter of our life in 2008 is the moving of my brother, his wife and baby to Liverpool. My sister in-law went there to pursue higher studies and as husband and child, it is right for them to go together for moral support. As the bible says, “What God has unite, let no man divide”. We all miss them very much and will also pray for them.

Many have said 2009 is not going to be an easy year as were hit with another the economy downturn. Though so, I do not think it’s the time to take things easy and lay back a bit. We have to be more careful about spending and investing. Anyway, let’s welcome 2009 with an open heart and strive for the best. The Lord will be guiding our paths and be not hesitant to ask, for you shall receive if you ask.
