Family of Love Conference 2009
13 - 14 June 2009 @ Christian Ecumenical Worship Centre, Kuching
Speaker: Rev. Fr Joey A. Faller
"A wonderful experience" would be the word to describe how I felt throughout the conference. An eye opener for a young parent like me, on the importance of family and God.
Some pointers collected for sharing
- The family that prays together stays together
- Family is a mini church
- Church - Pro-God - Pro-Life - Pro-Family
- Family is the greatest gift of God
- True wealth is in giving, not accumulation of money, property or material
- When one experiences crisis, pain, suffering or problem, it is a good opportunity to develop relationship with God
- Charity begins at home
- Family is is the evangeliser, the first to announce the Gospel, teaches the children the manifestation of the Holy Spirit
- Mission of the family is to guard, reveal and communicate love
- Parents provide the necessity but time spent with children is paramount
- Guide them (children) to the right path but not over protective
- Love in sincere moderation mould confidence
- Over protectiveness stifle growth
- Careful guidance is different from control
- On material goods, if you cannot afford it, you do not need it
- Excess baggage (life's past hurts) will block our relationship with God
- To forgive hurt is always healing but seldom easy
- Most common reason for hurting ourselves or another person is that someone has hurt us
- Let go of the past / resentment and move on
- Healing memories is the work of the fruit of the Holy Spirit
- How can we be healed of our memories? Prayer!
- It is more healing if you cry with someone
- Forgive everyone everything
- Time heals. Give time time.
- Remember to say "I LOVE YOU" at every opportunity
- Grow the spiritual foundation of parents
- Everything that comes out from your mouth must be a blessing, no harsh words, be tender hearted (James 1:26)
- It is not good for men to be alone. Community is God's gift for us.
Some questions to ponder
- If you only have 24 hours to live, who are you spending it with?
- Will you allow your past hurts control you and make you as a self-centred person or will you let the Holy Spirit control your future?
- Why do we need to be healed of our past? Ans: Collosians 1.13
In the Bible, roles of the father to nurture
- Discipline (1 Tim 3:4-12)
- Protection (Heb 11:23)
- Provision (2 Cor 12:14)
- Example (Gen 18:19)
I will share my personal experience of being touched by the Holy Spirit next. Till then, God Bless!
