St Maria Goretti

Today and finally, I gathered enough courage to offer myself to help out at the Sunday School @ St Peter's Church. I will undergo training in Form 4's class and will officially start next Sunday. I watched the story of St Maria Goretti and witnessed the modesty pledge of some secondary school teenage children.

The movie of St Maria Goretti revealed to us how strong the faith and trust in the Lord Jesus is at the young and tender age of 12. She hated sin and love God above all else. She sacrificed her life to protect her virginity. She is also very forgiving and each of us should be like her too. Everyone is our brothers and sisters as the commandment tell us, "Love thy neighbour". Hence, if we hate someone, we also hate ourselves. It is very painful to have hatred within us. Learn to forgive and move on. God wanted us to live.

"You shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart, with your whole soul, and with all your mind, (and) you shall love your neighbor as yourself." (Jesus' words as recorded in Matthew 22:37-38)

Another important lesson learnt is that family (parents) plays an important role in influencing the faith of our children. What they grow up to be depend very much on how we live each day. They observe our daily practices, attitudes, behaviours etc and mould themselves to be like that. St Maria's family members live each day believing and trusting in the Lord Jesus. Maria's faith is the result of it.

A Pilgrimage to Mt Singai (Lent)

14 March ~ Myself, kids, hubby, Ma and Mummy, and cousin-in-law join in the Pilgrimage to Mt Singai, Catholic Memorial & Pilgrimage Centre in Bau organised by the FFC of St Peter's Church. We started our journey from home at 8am and stopped along the way for breakfast. We were a little bit late when we reached the foot of the mountain. Anyway, we managed to catch up with the other 300 over parishioners. All the way we recited the rosary and the 14 stations of the Cross.

I was a bit worried about my 2 kids not being able to reach the top and it suddenly struck me where has my faith gone to. So, I prayed, "God give me strength" and I told my kids, "You can do it. God will give you strength". Yes! All of us reached the top. Praise the Lord!

At the end of the 14 stations, we gathered to pray the rosary led by a 10 (I think) year old girl. She was excellent, fluent and confident. Then, Fr Vincent Chin presided a mass for the pilgrimage. Finally, a group photo and lunch at the restaurant of the centre before we walked down the mountain at our own pace.

It was a very good experience for myself and my kids. I hope by participating more in this kind of events, I can help to grow their faith and love in Jesus.

Are you ready for 2009?

3 Feb 09 ~ Gosh, we are already moving into the second month of 2009. Are you already striving to meet your targeted goals? It seems like the days are moving very fast into months.

I am in the midst of preparing for the start of our first event for the year. Everything seems to be moving very slowly due to the many holidays and festivals - school holidays, Christmas, back to school and Chinese New Year. The slow pace is creating pressure within me as the upcoming events seem to be having a real poor respond.

Anyway, time to go back to work and focus on new initiatives to promote and attract people to attend the upcoming event. In this challenging year, it is very important to stay faithful to the Lord.
